Random Thought
Jan. 2nd, 2004 10:20 pmA random thought of the day seems an odd way to start a journal, but I signed up mostly to read my friends' journals. I may someday get in the habit of posting here myself, but maybe not.
Anyway, here's today's thought that came while I was perusing IMDb.
Similar vocal personae: Barbara Feldon in Get Smart; Pam Dawber in Mork and Mindy; Terry Gross, the host of NPR's Fresh Air.
Feldon and Dawber also have physical similarities, of course. (I have no idea what Gross looks like.) Both are somewhat busty but dressed te emphasize motherly comfort, rather than lust. Vocally, all three do more of what Feldon and Dawber do visually. they manage to sound both interested, even playful -- in the middle of sentences, but to end sentences with a flat-toned reassurance of their conversants' egos. And none of them speak in a soprano voice; that's probably essential for the effect.
