Actually, I think Edwards is the most likely pick, but I'd guess Wirth after that. Then Clark. All the others that people are talking about have (IMO) negatives that outweigh their positives. (That means whopping negatives to outweigh Bill Richardson's almost as whopping positives.) Clark's got strong negatives, too, but I think his positives are stronger.
The deal with Wirth is that, in addition to having a good resume for the job and being liberal (less than Kerry used to be, more than Kerry is presenting himself as now), Kerry should see him as trustworthy. He was a very good friend of Heinz's. He's a Westerner, which will matter some. And (sad that this matters) I'm pretty sure he wouldn't be a second Catholic on the ticket.
