I hate the feel of stuff smeared on my lips, but I'm really tired of not being able to smile without pain because the skin on my lips gets so tight and sometimes cracked.
Or even just occasionally take a mouthful of water, then tuck your lips in, and lean your head forward so the water sits there against your lips for a while.
You can try using a fragrance free lotion on your lips. It will sink into your skin and you won't really feel it after a while. You can also drink more water to stay hydrated. Hope this helps! It's what I do.
We have a humidifier (the evaporative kind, not the vaporizer kind) and it works wonders to prevent chapped lips. Kind of a pain to have to keep refilling the water tank, but worth it.
I use olive oil for moisturizing -- I never have to worry about weird ingredients, and it does the job. It feels different from chapstick, but it does still feel like there's something there. On the plus side, you can try it out without buying something you'll wind up throwing out if it feels too weird!
