| SportsFan | I keep hearing Gingrich use Alinsky's name like it's a profanity. I would like someone to ask Gingrich what the term "Saul Alinsky radical" means to him. I would then like someone to ask Gingrich, who has become a Roman Catholic, why he thinks the Roman Catholic church bestowed the Pacem in Terris Peace and Freedom Award ("to honor a person for their achievements in peace and justice, not only in their country but in the world") to Alinsky in 1969. -ebelosa replied (24 minutes ago): it doesn't mean anything to him. it's a dog whistle to blow to his 'supporters', who don't care so much what Gingrich stands for as much as they care that he's able to define, and hurl invective at the things they also hate. As a nasty piece of work, Gingrich is well suited to play the role of "guy who can tell the white working class that it's not their fault, that he hates the [insert group here] too", and that he'll fix them if elected. The fact is, America HAS fundamentally changed from when these folks were kids, but the story Gingrich wants to tell-- that it's because of an insidious Democratic elite, a traitor class which can only be stopped by righteous, working WHITE americans-- is the wrong one. It's electorally powerful because it plays to the stereotypes that emotionally, the white working class electorate has already told itself-- I can't get a good factory job like my father and support my family because the government takes my money and gives it to mexicans or n - ggers or fags. "Alinsky" is just a scary word Gingrich uses to tie Obama to the breakdown of order and the advancement of the people the WWC wants to hate and blame. |
