R.I.P., Greg Spira, 4/27/1967--12/28/2011, my good friend who introduced me to SABR and the baseball analytic community. He had been very sick the past few weeks but had been considered reasonably likely to recover. I saw him (sedated and not conscious) earlier today and was under the impression he was getting slowly better.

R.I.P. Mahdi Harrizi 1990--12/27/2011 who as the son of my friend Heidi I watched grow up from a baby to a fine young man and whose body was discovered today after a hiking accident.

No. As of the last I knew (rather recently) Greg Tomkavich is fine.

Thank you. I read that someone who I think was more in your circles than mine also died this week. I suppose if you're in touch with Sarah, she'd like to know about Badger.

She was the first call I made after I found out. I need to call her again and let her know about the various memorials.

From what I understand, she broke her leg, and she died from complications from bone marrow escaping the bone and interfering in her lungs.

This eventually led to organ failure. She was in a medically induced coma for a few weeks prior to her death. They were hoping to stabilize her condition, but ultimately it failed, much to everyone's dissatisfaction and sadness.
