Doug Pappas, not old
May. 21st, 2004 05:22 pmSome of you may have read either his work or others' quoting him on the business of baseball. He was head of SABR's Business of Baseball Committee, wrote at times for Baseball Prospectus, and maintained the premiere web site tracking business of baseball topics. It is his salary data that appears near the bottom of the Baseball-Reference pages of recent players.
He was a smart, honest man, writing about a field with much disinformation being spread. And he was a good, civil person to those in the baseball analysis community (and, I presume, to everyone else).
He died vacationing in Big Bend National Park, apparently of heat prostration. I’m farily sure he was in his 40s.
