New Jersey's New High Profile
Nov. 8th, 2008 06:05 pmWe've had two politicians on national TV non-stop for a week, and neither one of them is they guy who just got re-elected to the Senate.
Corzine says he's not interested in being the Secretary of the Treasury, but he'd probably be good at it. He's OK as governor, but he's more attuned to business administration than to coalition building.
Booker also says he doesn't want to leave Newark now. He's also having troubles maintaining support among varied interests in Newark, but he's doing a very good job of running the city government. He's not the next Obama, as some people see him. Partly because nobody's ever really the next anybody; also because he's sharp, but not Obama sharp, at least in public give and take. He does have a bright future, though, if he finishes a term, gets re-elected, and is perceived to be, as he puts it, moving Newark forward.
I guess that Bradley's name will also re-surface at some point. I don't know if he'll be tapped for a full-time job, but I think Obama will find some way to use his wisdom and make use of his good name.
Our other living Democratic ex-Senator, Toricelli, is far too discredited (and truly a scumbag) to get any direct role. but still has loads of connections and has probably had a very interesting week on the phone.
Oh, and my Congressman, Rush Holt, is an increasingly visible leader of the Progressive Caucus in the House.
