Listen more closely to what he says. He says "that's how they WERE and that's how they are today." Notice that the second half of the sentence relates the the first half. It is only the inability to understand his (clearly African) accent that has invented this "that's how they work" quote. Do yourself a favor and listen more closely to the video before spreading this incredibly bogus meme and making yourself look bad.

It may be that "that's how they were" is just as bad as "that's how they WORK" but the quote is the former and not the latter. Feel free to get outraged, but get outraged about the actual quote... :)

Actually, I'm more disgusted than outraged. I doubt Plain holds quite the same sentiment; just that she sees nothing particularly wrong with it.

Fair enough, but what is "the sentiment"? From the context of the sermon he appears to be using the quote from Proverbs to suggest that "the righteous" should advance their spiritual goals through advancing their secular and business goals. He uses "The Israelites" as a positive example of how "the righteous" might behave, correctly pointing out that this is how "The Isrealites" were and how they are now.

Now, obviously as a Christian he is not advocating conversion to Judaism and presumably does believe that Jews are going to hell for not accepting the divinity of Christ. That's part of what (most) Christians believe. But I fail to see how saying that his congregation should be more like "The Israelites" is in any way anti-Jewish. I'm pretty sure he's not making the jump that everyone is accusing with this mis-heard "that's how they work" quote, that "The Israelites" are "the wicked."

As a commenter on another site said :
