Dragged Down by a Sprained Ankle
Oct. 1st, 2007 08:27 pmJust so everyone knows, for the last few weeks i've been unable to stand for more than about 10 minutes without a lot of pain, I'm walking funny (which is building up pain away from the ankle that is the cause) and I've got background pain all the time, despite now being on Celebrex. And driving hurts, too. Being newly on the Clebrex, I didn't cancel Sunday plans that had me walking mroe than I had recently, which I think turned out to be a mistake.
I sprained the ankle in January, doing mild pernament damage, I was told. But damage that was supposed to lead to increased susceptability to future sprains, not constant pain. With physical therapy, the pain all but went away, but not quite. But in August, it started getting a little worse. Two weeks ago, it got a lot sorse and I don't know what the future holds.

Date: 2007-10-02 01:42 am (UTC)That kind of sprain needs to be exercised, as I learned back in 1992 when I finally took it to a doctor. The more you favor it, the more it will hurt, and the less able it will be to handle a surge in activity. Try walking in small steps so that you can move the good foot and the bad one the same way; the brain will note the symmetry and stop favoring the injured part as much. Whatever you do, and assuming it is ‘just’ a permanent sprain, don’t protect it by limping on the other leg.
I’m sorry you’ve got one of these, it’s nasty and actually, for me, the original accident (which happened playing with a frisbee by myself while extremely sleepy) is something for which I still have a psychological trauma.

Date: 2007-10-02 02:19 am (UTC)The bandage support the weak tendons and the pills keep it from aching.
I have no idea i there's a scientific basis for this or it's pure placebo, I figure it's somewhere between the two.
Hope it stops bothering you soon.
