On the way to lunch, I was rear-ended while waiting at a light, pushing me into the car stopped ahead of me. The guy who hit me said he was responsible for the (nearly non-existent) damage to the back of my car, but not the front. Legally, that's just not true. Nor is it true in a causative sense.
The guy ahead of me took a quick look at his own car, so no relevant damage, and drove off before I could get his info.
With the guy who hit me not willing to pay for the front, I called the cops to file a report, missing my afternoon classes. My new semi-boss seemed fine with that (we spoke on the phone several times) but I'm not sure. The cops took hours to show up, which I can't complain about. But they could have been more upfront about how long it would take.
After finally signing out of work, I saw my doctor. She said I needed X-rays. When I was dubious about my health insurance covering emergency room visits when I'm not admitted (turns out that was only an old policy) she sent me to an urgent care facility. But when I got there, they said they did auto accident cases and they did X-rays, but they didn't do X-rays for car accidents.
Fortunately, by that time, a lawyer friend was back in the office. He confirmed my understanding of the other drivers' responsibility and said because it was at a light, my insurance company would probably accept my truthful version of the story even if the other guy disputes it and even if the traffic camera at the intersection doesn't provide a record of the accident. He also said my and my dad's rates probably won't go up since I won't be deemed at fault.
So I called in a claim. Then, having never gotten my lunch and by happenstance not having eaten since yesterday lunch, I stopped at WaWa for a sandwich and went to the emergency room. The X-Rays are fine, they say I can expect to be very sore tomorrow. Unless it's extreme, I'll be at work, anyway. Not least because I still haven't gotten my sub plans in, which would be a problem if I'm out.
And my doctor said to postpone my monthly massage, so I'll have to deal with the old pain for an extra week, in addition to the new pain.
I've had better days.
And it could have been much worse.
