I enjoy what I'll call the English of Cadence -- paragraphs whose meaning is elucidated by the way the words are spoken in the author's and readers' heads. I've found that mostly in 19th Century American English, especially Poe, Twain, and Lincoln. I also enjoy reading modern speeches by masters of cadence, such as Cuomo.

Do you have any recommendations of recent writing, be they expository or narrative, that are good examples?

You Should Get a JD (Juris Doctor)

You're logical, driven, and ruthless.
You'd make a mighty fine lawyer.

Actually, if I came into a lot of money, I'd start toward a J.S.D., which would entail a J.D. on the way.
