Well, don’t forget, all this happened during a first term, when they were still worried about re-election. Just what will they think they can do if not faced with the checks and balances of a second election. (Remember, Cheney is not going to run and couldn’t care less either.) Here’s hoping we’ll never know…

The top Democratic takeover possibilities are:This is a killer list, very exciting. Right now, the U.S. Senate is 97% white, with only Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell and the two Hawaii senators adding a dash of diversity in the "World's Most Exclusive Club".

- Colorado
- Alaska
- Oklahoma
Yet in our top four pickup opportunities we have an African American (Obama in Illinois), a Latino (Salazar in Colorado), and a Cherokee Native American (Carson in Oklahoma). Throw in Knowles in Alaska, Bowles in NC and Tenenbaum in SC, and we're going to have one heck of a freshman class in 2005.
(And yeah, I know Salazar still faces a primary race, but he's the likely nominee, and I don't mind that one bit.)
